India has proposed a mandatory 70% galvanized steel requirement for body sheet metal parts
07 October,2022
India's road transport and highways ministry is proposing to impose a mandate on car companies to use galvanised steel at 70 per cent of their body sheet metal parts, according to reports. Electrogalvanized or zinc coating makes steel less susceptible to corrosion, thus ensuring the safety of automotive structural parts.

In India's home market, the amount of galvanized sheet used by Indian automakers is only 30%. To achieve its vehicle exports, the amount of galvanized steel used for the same model needs to be increased to 70%, compared with the global average of 50%. However, in order to improve corrosion resistance of motor vehicles, the bill would limit the application of the regulations to Indian-made models costing less than 100,000 Indian rupees ($1,408).
